Doctoral student (cotutelle internationale de thèse) in ethnology, Université Paul-Valéry de Montpellier 3, (Laboratoire SantÉSiH, under the supervision of Sylvain Ferez.) & Université de Yaoundé I, Cameroun .

Provisional title of the thesis : "Aging, health and culture among the Mmala of Bokito in Yambassa country, Cameroon. A socio-anthropological study of the complexities, divergences and compromises in the relationship between categorical representations of ageing in health, and the transition from tradition to modernity".

Research theme :

  • Anthropology of systems of representation and practice of healthy aging. Tensions between traditional visions of aging and those imposed by globalization.
  • Anthropology of new religious movements. Study of the social issues involved in religious modernization, in particular those that emphasize the importance of mobilizing religious resources as a strategy for negotiating social insertion in the urban universes being built up in developing societies in a context of globalization.

Teaching experience :

Since October 2019: Lecturer in medical and health anthropology at the Ecole de Santé St-Amour in Douala, a training school for state-qualified nurses specializing in gerontology.

Research topics

My research deals with the question of whether or not an obese person decides to undergo bariatric surgery: when, how, when and how this decision is made; how the expectation and impact of this decision contributes to the reconfiguration of the person's own posture (identity/medical) within the course of his or her life; and how this decision impacts the person in his or her relationships with those around him or her.

Provisional title of my thesis:
Effect of the entourage's gaze on the need to lose weight and recourse to bariatric surgery. Study of the issues involved in the decision to undergo weight-loss surgery and the support it provides.
